Jobs we take
- Sticking and swollen doors
- Eased at the rub point and sealed again so they move freely.
- Latches and strikes
- Strike plates moved and hinges shimmed so the door closes on its own.
- Knobs, locks and hinges
- Replaced like-for-like, including matching older backsets where possible.
- Cabinet doors
- Realigned, with stripped hinge screw holes rebuilt.
- Drawers
- Slides replaced and loose drawer fronts reattached.
Doors in Craftsman and Revival houses
Craftsman, Spanish Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival houses, like the ones on blocks north of Las Tunas Drive, often have solid wood doors with many layers of paint. Paint build-up and seasonal swelling cause most of the sticking.
Before you call: what to check
- Slide a sheet of paper around the closed door. Where it catches is where the door rubs.
- Tighten the top hinge screws. A sagging door often drops from the top hinge first.
- Notice if the door sticks only in wet weather. That points to swelling rather than settling.
