What I patch
- Cracks routed out and filled so they stay closed
- Holes from removed fixtures and anchors
- Broken corners and window returns rebuilt
- Hand-matched finishes, from smooth to heavy texture
- Patches primed for paint
- Seams where stucco meets wood trim sealed
Older finishes need the right mix
Over half of San Gabriel’s houses (52.3 percent) are more than 60 years old, and some older walls are finished with softer, lime-based plaster rather than modern cement stucco. A hard cement patch on a soft wall can crack away at the edges, so I look at the existing finish before choosing the patch.
My guide on lime plaster vs cement patching explains the difference.
How I patch
Look
I check the finish type and what caused the damage.
Prepare
Loose material comes off and the edges are cut clean.
Build up
Layers go on with drying time between.
Finish
Texture matched, then primed.
When to call someone else
Re-stuccoing a whole wall, or cracks that keep widening or come with doors that stop closing, should be seen by a plastering contractor or a structural engineer.

On the same San Gabriel visit, people also tend to ask about wood rot repair, window leak repair or mailbox installation.
What to send
A wide shot of the wall and a close-up of the damage with a coin for scale.

Stucco questions
Do hairline cracks in stucco need fixing?
Not urgently, but sealing them before the rainy months keeps water out of the wall.

Can you match an old textured finish?
Yes. I match it by hand; it blends best once the wall is painted.
Is my wall stucco or lime plaster?
Older walls are often softer. I check before patching, since the mix should suit the wall.
Can you patch around a new light fixture?
Yes, the gap left by a smaller fixture base is a typical job.
What would a stucco patch cost?
I quote from photos, and the estimate is free.
